Welcome to the Raisalee Russian Art Gallery Matryoshka This is a selection of the finest matryoshka we saw available in our Republic of Mari-El and neighboring republics. A local artist who showed us around visited many local (and not so local) artists and selected items for us to see with an eye to quality, uniqueness, and beauty. Each of these matryoshka were meticulously hand-painted and lacquered to produce a lasting finish. Unlike many matryoshka you will see these are not mass-produced - each artist has their own style and each artist fashions, designs, and paints these one at a time. We were able to build up a very nice collection, although we have given almost all of them away to our friends. Each page has six Matryoshka listed, and you can click on any picture and see a detailed close up. Many Matryoshka have several views available so you can really appreciate the quality. A Note for our Visitors Hello,
my name is Kenneth Lee and I am an American from Boston who lived for some period of time in the Russian Federation. I lived with my wife Raisa in Yoshkar-Ola,
which is the capital city of the Republic of Mari-El. I became interested
in local art when Raisa bought me several paintings and other local
art objects as gifts. I was struck by the quality and care that went
into each work and decided to share my discovery with others.
Our goal was and is to showcase the beauty which is still produced by hand rather than by mass production. |
